Cleveland Play House opened its 2025-26 season with a production of “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder, directed by Mary Zimmerman. The show ran September 7 through September 28 at the Allen Theatre.
Zimmerman, a Tony Award-winning director and MacArthur Fellow, is a full-time ensemble member at Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago and a Professor of Performance Studies at Northwestern University. Her 2002 direction of “Metamorphoses” won the Tony Award for Best Direction. Wilder’s play, which won the Pulitzer Prize, follows the Webb and Gibbs families in the small town of Grover’s Corners through the stages of daily life, courtship, and loss.
Zimmerman described the play as “an extremely cunning play with a simple surface” that “resonates with anyone anywhere that has spent time in a small community.”
