Summit Artspace in Akron began a building renovation in August 2025, funded by Summit County, the owner of the historic structure. The project updates stairwells, gallery spaces, the third-floor event space, and the storefront of the nearly century-old building. The organization serves 30 resident artists, 400 exhibiting artists, and about 9,000 annual visitors.
The Artspace held its last weekend of public hours on August 1-2 before closing for the duration of construction, with plans to hold an outdoor ArtWalk on September 11, hoping to reopen by late November. The renovation is intended to ensure the organization’s continued tenancy ahead of the building’s centennial.
