Heights Arts is inviting applications for its 12th Poet Laureate, a two-year term commencing in April 2025 and concluding in April 2027. This selection process marks a significant milestone as it coincides with Heights Arts’ 25th anniversary celebration. The chosen laureate will receive a stipend, engage in community and civic events, and oversee the popular “Ekphrastacy – Artists Talk and Poets Respond” series.
Established in 2000, the Cleveland Heights Poet Laureateship is recognized as the first and longest-standing of its kind in Ohio. Following an expansion endorsed by both Cleveland Heights and University Heights, the program now encompasses the broader “Heights Poet Laureateship.” A dedicated team, comprising Heights Arts staff and literary experts from the Heights Writes Community Team, will review applications to select a poet with a strong connection to the Cleveland area.
Poets interested in this honor are encouraged to attend a virtual information session on November 11th at 12:00 PM via Zoom. Applications will be accepted from November 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. Applicants must commit to the full 24-month term and reside in Cleveland Heights or demonstrate a substantial connection to the community.
