Dayton Opera will stage Verdi’s Aida on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, at 2:30 p.m. at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Tickets start at $5.
The production, directed by Kathleen Clawson, Dayton Opera Artistic Director, is conducted by Keitaro Harada, Music and Artistic Director Designate of the Dayton Philharmonic, with choreography by Crystal Michelle of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. The principal cast includes Laquita Mitchell as Aida, Nathan Granner as Radames, Deborah Nansteel as Amneris, Darren Lekeith Drone as Amonasro, and Kenneth Kellogg as Ramphis. The production involves more than 100 Dayton-area artists: 50 orchestral musicians, more than 50 choristers, and 40 dancers.
Clawson described the Triumphal Scene as featuring “over 100 individuals onstage,” combining “powerful singing” with soldiers, supernumeraries, and dancers. Tickets are available at DaytonPerformingArts.org or by calling (937) 228-3630.
