BalletMet named Remi Wörtmeyer as its new artistic director, the Columbus ballet company announced on June 13, 2024. Wörtmeyer is a choreographer and former principal dancer with Dutch National Ballet.
Wörtmeyer was born in Adelaide, Australia, and trained at The Australian Ballet School. He danced professionally with The Australian Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, performing at venues including the Sydney Opera House, New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, and Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.
Dance Europe ranked him among the world’s top 100 dancers and gave him its best performance award twice. He also received Australia’s Walter Bourke Award and the Alexandra Radius Prize, the highest honor for classical dancers in the Netherlands.
As a choreographer, Wörtmeyer has created works for Dutch National Ballet, Queensland Ballet, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. His ballet “Significant Others,” about artists Sonia and Robert Delauney, headlined Atlanta Ballet’s spring 2024 season.
