The Cleveland Institute of Music has announced its 2026-27 CIM Opera Theater season, the first under the direction of Dr. François Germain, who was appointed earlier this year as Director of CIM Opera Theater and Voice Ensembles. Germain will continue to serve as Professor of Voice Studies.
The season opens November 6 and 8 with Daniel Catán’s “Florencia en el Amazonas” in Kulas Hall. The opera, the first Spanish-language work commissioned by major American opera companies, follows a legendary singer and fellow travelers on a journey through the Amazon. Harry Davidson conducts, with Alison Moritz as stage director. Tickets range from $25 to $35.
The second production, Jonathan Sheffer’s “Blood on the Dining Room Floor,” runs February 5 and 7 in Mixon Hall. Based on Gertrude Stein’s 1948 novella, the opera received the Richard Rodgers Production Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters after its off-Broadway premiere in 2000. Anthony Parnther conducts, with 2026-27 CIM Artist in Residence Marc Callahan directing. Tickets are $15.
The season closes April 16 and 18 with Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) in Kulas Hall, conducted by Davidson and directed by Amy Hutchison.
