Ohio Goes to the Movies, an America 250-Ohio signature event, will screen more than 250 Ohio-centric films across all 88 Ohio counties in 2026. The program highlights Ohioans who have worked in front of and behind the camera, including Paul Newman, Ruby Dee, Dean Martin, Doris Day, Woody Harrelson, Rachael Harris and others.
Community venues around the state are pairing screenings with local programming. The McConnell Arts Center in Worthington will show “Best in Show” (2000) with actress Rachael Harris, a Worthington native and Otterbein University graduate, planning to attend. The Kent State University Museum will screen “The Philadelphia Story” (1940) to complement its current “Hepburn Style” exhibition of costumes from the estate of Katharine Hepburn; the film was written by Ohio screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart.
In Cincinnati, the city’s only independently owned theater group will feature Ohio actresses across three of its houses: Ruby Dee in “A Raisin in the Sun” (1961) at the Esquire Theatre, Doris Day in “Lover Come Back” (1961) at the Mariemont Theatre and Phyllis Diller in “Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number” (1966) at the Kenwood Theatre. The Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights will host “Cool Hand Luke” starring Paul Newman, who worked at the Cedar Lee in his youth. Newman’s daughter Melissa is expected to introduce the screening.
