Cleveland Ballet opens its 2024-2025 season with Dracula and The Masque of the Red Death on October 18 and 19 at Playhouse Square’s Mimi Ohio Theatre. The performances will feature live music by members of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra conducted by Carl Topilow.
Dracula is choreographed by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, whose credits include New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and the films Footloose and My Blue Heaven. The Masque of the Red Death features choreography by Robert Weiss, founding artistic director of Carolina Ballet. Both ballets use original scores by J. Mark Scearce.
The title role of Dracula will be performed by Johan Macebo at the October 18, 7:00 p.m. and October 19, 7:00 p.m. performances, and by Narek Martirosyan at the October 18, 10:30 a.m. and October 19, 1:00 p.m. shows. Tony Award nominated actor Alan Campbell will perform the narrator role of Dr. Seward, a part he originated for Carolina Ballet’s premiere of Dracula in 2010.
Cleveland Ballet will offer a student matinee and Pay What You Can performance during the final dress rehearsal on Friday, October 18.
