BalletMet artistic director Edwaard Liang has accepted the position of artistic director at The Washington Ballet after 11 years leading the Columbus company. Liang will continue serving as BalletMet’s artistic director through the end of the 2023/2024 season.

Sue Porter, executive director of BalletMet, said the organization would begin an international search for its next artistic director, led by former board chair Susan Douglass. “Our goal is to have that talent in place by next summer,” Porter said.

During Liang’s tenure, BalletMet adopted a vision focused on creating and fostering what the organization described as world class art and artists. The Washington Ballet has a 75-year history of presenting classical and contemporary ballet in the Washington D.C. area, often performing at the Kennedy Center.
