ArtsWave will present its fourth annual Truth and Innovation Artist Showcase from July 12 to 14, 2024, a free, public exhibition of new works by 22 Black and Brown artists from the Greater Cincinnati region. The showcase will open July 12 at the Contemporary Arts Center, continue July 13 at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center with exhibitions running for one month, and close July 14 at The Carnegie in Northern Kentucky.

The 22 artists were selected from 71 proposals through a competitive panel process last fall and received a combined $212,500 in grants to fund their projects. Works span visual art, painting, sculpture, musical composition, film, theater, dance and other disciplines. Among them, Brandon Hawkins created a mural in Woodlawn titled “Where Honor is Due,” focused on under-recognized BIPOC military personnel, and Anupama Mirle will present “DOR,” a classical Indian dance theater performance about a young widow who leaves India for the United States.

The showcase is part of ArtsWave’s Black and Brown Artist Program, which has funded 90 artist projects and distributed $950,000 in grants over four years. This year’s participants also received professional development through Wave Pool’s “Driving Lessons” program. Funding comes from the ArtsWave Campaign along with partners including the City of Cincinnati, Duke Energy, Fifth Third Bank, the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Macy’s and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
