Soprano Renée Fleming will lead a panel discussion on the connections between the arts and health on April 20 at the Hudson Library & Historical Society, 96 Library St. in Hudson. The free event, titled “Harnessing the Arts to Heal & Connect,” begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required and space is limited.
Fleming, who has been an advocate for research into music and neuroscience, will open the discussion before turning to a panel of four specialists. The panelists are Herbert Bruce Newton, a neuro-oncologist and Medical Director of the Brain Tumor Center at Seidman Cancer Center; violinist Arial Clayton Karas, a Musicians-In-Residence at Cleveland Clinic; Seneca Block, the Lauren Rich Fine Endowed Director for Expressive Therapies at Connor Whole Health; and Tammy Shella, Director of Arts and Medicine at Cleveland Clinic.
The panel is presented by Tuesday Musical and hosted by the Hudson Library, with co-sponsorship from Peg’s Foundation and Peg’s Gallery in Hudson. Copies of Fleming’s books “Music and Mind” and “The Inner Voice” will be available for purchase and signing through The Learned Owl Book Shop in Hudson.
Fleming is also scheduled to perform the following evening, April 21 at 7:30 p.m., at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron as part of Tuesday Musical’s Akron Concert Series.
