Weathervane Playhouse in Akron has announced the recipients of its Chanticleer Awards, recognizing performers, designers, and volunteers from its recent season.
Jersey Boys won Best Musical, while 8×10: The Eileen Moushey TheatreFest took Best Play. Jordan Benjamin received Best Lead Performer in a Musical for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Amanda Davis won Best Lead Performer in a Play for Dial M for Murder.
Other performance awards went to Noah Casino for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical, Jerald Lynn Beard and Mitch Manthey for Best Supporting Performer in a Play, Samaria Murry for Best Featured Performer in a Musical, and Jennifer Matas for Best Featured Performer in a Play. The casts of Jersey Boys and The Amen Corner were recognized for Best Featured Ensemble in a Musical and a Play, respectively.
Design awards included Alan Costa for Best Scenic Design, Wittman Sullivan for Best Lighting Design, Robin Ungerleider for Best Sound Design, and Laura Niehaus and Rachel Marie Watson for Best Properties Design, all for Dial M for Murder or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The theater also named its Top 25 Volunteers, with Ozwald Casiño ranked first, and presented the Erin Dillon Youth Award to Isabella Rodeman and the Jim Horvath Award to David Moledor.
